Kolob Sections

The Kolob Terrace and Kolob Canyons sections of Zion National Park are located in the northwest portion of the park. The Kolob Terrace is accessed by the Kolob Terrace road via UT SR-9 through Virgin Utah, while the Kolob Canyons portion is accessed via Interstate 15 just south of Cedar City.

Kolob Terrace

This area is home to some of the park’s most popular back country hiking trails including the Subway and West Rim Trail. It is also a great scenic drive April-November, accessible only by snowmobile December-March. Just outside of the park on this drive is the Kolob Reservoir which offers great water sport activities May – October. Popular activities include:

– Back Country hiking for moderate to advanced ability levels
– Road biking via the Kolob Terrace Road
– Kayaking & Paddle Boarding (May-October)
– Wildlife Viewing
– Fishing (Utah Fishing License Required)
– Extensive landscape photography opportunities

Kolob Canyons

This area is one of the most dramatic view points with towering red cliffs in a finger formation creating some truly amazing canyons. Popular hikes in this area include Taylor Creek and the Kolob Arch (one of the largest free standing arches in North America). It is also a great scenic drive and can be combined with a longer day trip loop that includes visiing Cedar Breaks and Navajo Lake (April-October). Popular activities include:

– Back Country hiking for moderate to advanced ability levels
– Wildlife Viewing
– Extensive landscape photography opportunities
