Area National and State Parks

While the Cliffrose Lodge & Gardens is literally located at Zion National Park we are also very close in proximity to some other amazing and world class national parks, national monuments, national recreation areas, and state parks.  All of the park attractions listed below are less than 2.5 hours away making them all great day trips depending on your vacation and activity needs.

Bryce Canyon National Park

Located Northeast of Zion National Park approximately 84 miles and a 1.5 hour drive this spectacular national park features natural amphitheaters composed of a unique multicolored formation known as “hoodoos”.  While Bryce is just a short distance from Zion it is nearly twice as high in elevation with scenic turnouts at and above 8000 feet!  Temperatures can vary between the two parks as much as 30+ degrees so make sure to call ahead or check the extended forecasts to pack appropriately.  Because Bryce Canyon is best viewed from the many scenic turnouts it is possible to see almost all of the park in just a few short hours.  If you are acclimated to  hiking at high elevations there are many trails that wind above the rim and down into these magical formations and there are also seasonally available horseback rides through some of these areas as well.  For more information on Bryce please download the park map below or visit the official Bryce Canyon National Park Home Page.

Grand Canyon National Park – North Rim

Located Southeast of Zion National Park approximately 120 miles and a 2.5 hour drive this amazing section of the Grand Canyon makes for a wonderful day trip.  This portion of the Grand Canyon National Park is located nearly 1000 feet higher than the more visited South Rim giving it a truly unique setting.  Because this area is more remote the North Rim  is only open May-October.  Much like Bryce Canyon the North Rim is easily viewed from the many easy to get to scenic lookouts and is also possible to see most of this park in a few short hours.

Snow Canyon State Park

Located just over 50 miles and a 1 hour drive Southwest of Zion National Park and just outside of St. George, Utah is another amazing area known as Snow Canyon State Park.  This amazing formation is carved out of the native red and white sandstone of Southwest Utah along with random portions of petrified flows of black lava rock from nearby extinct volcanoes.  Because this park is much smaller than Zion it is even easier to get in and out of.  Hiking is one of the most popular activities in Snow Canyon but there are also some great bike paths for road and leisure riding, and some great routes for climbing and rappelling.  If you love landscape photography you will not be disappointed with a day trip to this great park.
